摘要： A polymer dispersant for pigments based on a graft copolymer which contains a new type of urea functional group as the pigment anchoring group. The urea groups are attached to the graft copolymer by a convenient method which involves reaction of hydroxyl functional groups built in the graft copolymer with a diisocyanate that is capped at one end with ammonia or a primary or secondary amine. The reaction is convenient and clean. Substantial crosslinking or gelling of the polymer can be easily avoided by judicious selection of appropriate ingredients and processing conditions. These materials are effective in dispersing and stabilizing a wide range of pigments in solvent based systems and are particularly useful in forming pigment dispersions that are used in a variety of solvent borne coating compositions for automobiles and trucks, where they provide improved efficiency of pigment use, lower paint viscosity, and reduced emission of volatile organic solvent.

摘要： The present invention relates to a process for producing a multi-coat system on various substrates, particularly automotive bodies. A crosslinkable component of the composition includes an acid functional acrylic copolymer polymerized from a monomer mixture comprising 2 percent to 12 percent of one or more carboxylic acid group containing monomers, percentages based on total weight of the acid functional acrylic copolymer, and 0.2 percent to 2 percent of amorphous silica, percentages based on total weight of the crosslinkable component. The crosslinking component can includes polyisocyanates, melamines, or a combination thereof.

摘要： Method for patterning organic polymer layers comprising the sequential steps: (a) applying to a substrate (1) unpatterned layer (3a) of acidic polymer dissolved in a plasticizer, (b) applying to the unpatterned layer a second patterned layer (5a) which is a liquid solution of organic base dissolved in a volatile solvent; (c) heating the patterned layer to effect removal of the volatile solvent from the layer and diffusion of the second layer plasticizer and organic base into the underlying areas of the acidic polymer layer; and (d) washing the layers with aqueous solution to effect solubilization of the acidic polymer underlying the patterned areas and removal therefrom of the solubilized polymer and plasticizers.

These elements comprise, in order: (1) a dimensionally stable support; (2) an active layer comprising : (a) an infra-red absorbing material, and (b) a polymeric binder; (3) an adhesive layer; and (4) a coversheet. The adhesive relationship is such that, on peeling apart, regions of the active layer exposed with infra-red radiation adhere to the support while unexposed regions of the active layer adhere to the adhesive layer and the coversheet.

摘要： A method for preparing high resolution, negative-working, wash-off relief images, preferably using ink jet printing, comprising the sequential steps of: (a) providing a non-photosensitive layer comprising an acid-containing polymer; (b) applying an ink imagewise to the non-photosensitive layer to produce image areas and unimaged areas, said ink comprising an esterification agent which is capable of reacting with the acid groups in the polymer to form water-insoluble ester groups; (c) drying the non-photosensitive layer to induce or accelerate the esterification reaction between the acid groups and the esterification agent in the imaged areas; and (d) washing the non-photosensitive layer with an aqueous developer solution to remove the unimaged areas of the non-photosensitive layer is described.
