    • The invention relates to a process for preparing a high-molecular polycondensate, i.e. a polyester, a polyamide, a polyester-amide, a polycarbonate, a polyether or a block copolymer by melt-mixing a polyester, a polyamide, a polycarbonate, a polyether or a mixture of at least two of these said polycondensates with a carbonyl bislactam according to formula (I) in which formula n is an integer of between 3 and 15, and a diepoxide. Preferably said diepoxide is a compound containing epoxy radicals of formula (II), which radicals are linked direct to carbon, oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur atoms, wherein R 1 and R 3 are both hydrogen, R 2 is hydrogen or methyl, and m=0, or wherein R 1 and R 3 , taken together, are - CH 2 -CH 2 - or -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 -, in which case R 2 is hydrogen and m=0 or 1. The present invention results in a more stable process for the production of a polycondensate with a high molecular mass. Furthermore the polycondensate obtained with the process according to the invention has, even under extreme process conditions such as high temperature, less discoloration. With the process according to the invention a permanent increase in the molecular weight of a polycondensate is obtained in an even faster way than with processes according to the state of the art.

    • The invention relates to a polymer composition as well as to a process for the preparation of such a composition wherein two or more essentially incompatible polymers, each containing functional hydroxy groups and/or functional amino groups, are in contact with each other in the presence of at least one compatibilizer, the compatibilizer being a carbonyl bislactam (CBL) having the structure according to formula (I), where n is an integer from 3 to 15 and preferably 5. Preferably, the compatibilizer is carbonyl biscaprolactam. Depending on the ratio of the number of functional -OH or -NH 2 groups to the CBL, the composition can be used as a polymer dispersion, for instance for improvement of the impact resistance or of the VICAT, or as a copolymer. The invention also relates to shaped parts containing at least two parts that are in contact with each other via a boundary face, each of these parts comprising a different polymer, which polymers are essentially incompatible polymers and contain functional hydroxy groups and/or functional amino groups and with at least one of said polymers having reacted with carbonyl bislactam or containing carbonyl bislactam. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said shaped part. The shaped part can be prepared by means of coextrusion, insert moulding or overmoulding.

    • The invention relates to a method of increasing the molecular mass of a polycondensate in solution, wherein polycondensate is reacted with at least one chain extender out of the group consisting of bislactams, cyclic amino ethers, siloxanes and thiols. The invention further relates to a high molecular mass polycondensate in solution, wherein the polycondensate has an intrinsic viscosity as measured in hexafluoroisopropanol of at least 0.9 dl/g and a molecular mass distribution (Mw/Mn) of less than (2). The invention further relates to a process for producing a filament or film of a polycondensate comprising forming a solution of polycondensate by the method according to the invention, extruding the solution through a spinneret or a slot die, through air and into a cooling bath to form a gel filament or film, optionally removing residual solvent from the filament or film and drawing the filament or film at least (15), preferably at least (25) times. The invention further relates to shaped articles obtainable by the process thereof.
