    • A concrete saw utilizing a transmission (50) having both forward and reverse, high and low speed ranges separated by a neutral state. A neutral starts switch prevents the engine from being started while the transmission (50) is in gear. An automatic parking brake assembly (80) is mounted to the frame (4) proximate the drive wheel (68), and engages the drive wheel (68) when the ignition switch (260) is off or the battery (200) is disengaged or dead. The drive wheel (68) is immobilized whenever the transmission (50) is shifted to the neutral state. An override switch (250) bypasses the automatic application of the brake assembly when the transmission (50) is placed in neutral. The brake (80) is disengaged only when the engine start switch (260) is turned on. An override switch (207) stops the engine, blade and engages the parking brake (80). A hydraulic system (18) for raising and lowering the saw blade is inactivated when the engine start switch (260) is off or when the battery (200) fails.

    • A slurry recovery system for a wet cutting saw including watering section (10), containment section (20), gas-liquid separator section (100) and discharge section (200). The watering section (10) contains a pressure gauge (12), shut-off valve (13) and flow meter (14) to control the flow of liquid onto the saw blade (21). Containment section (20) includes blade cover (22) and bellows (30) forming a sawing chamber (35). A drag bar (40) skids along the cutting surface and removes slurry therefrom. Drag bar (40) includes inner and outer flexible walls (43, 44) that create a vacuum chamber (45). Slurry is vacuumed out and conveyed to a gas-liquid separator tank (101). The slurry passes to a diaphragm pump (210) and the air passes to discharge blower (113). The separator tank (101) includes blower protector (120) with float (123) and seals (127). When the slurry level rises above a desired level, float (120) prevents slurry from passing through air outlet port (113). Waste slurry is drawn from separator tank (101), via diaphragm pump (210) and surge tank (252), and stored.

    • A tile cutting apparatus includes a base (3) for holding a tile and guide rods (11) above and running parallel to the base. The guide rods carry a scoring/breaking assembly (50) along a scoring path. The base includes a breaker spline (21) inserted therein and extending along the scoring path. The base also includes resilient pads (22) supporting stainless steel rest plates (23) on both sides of the breaker spline. The spline is oriented at a slight angle with respect to the surface of the rest plates to facilitate breaking. The scoring/breaking assembly includes a spring (82) for applying constant pressure to a cutting wheel (84) throughout the scoring operation. The scoring/breaking assembly is constructed such that a single handle (70) allows the user to score the tile and break the tile. The apparatus includes a molded cover (2) and base (3).

    • A saw blade (1) is provided which includes an inner collar (2) separated from an outer collar (18) with a resilient isolated layer (14). The inner collar (2) fastens to the arbor shaft (10) of a driving motor, while the outer collar (18) is welded to the rim (20) containing hardened particles, such as diamond bits. The inner and outer collars form inner and outer collar flanges (12, 16) which receive the resilient isolating material (14) therebetween. In an alternative embodiment, the inner and outer collars are separated from one another with a plurality of plugs (30) formed of resilient isolating material. The plurality of plugs (30) are formed in a circular pattern about the arbor shaft (18) and are spaced apart from one another. In another embodiment, a vibration dampening coupler (36) is fastened to the arbor shaft and formed separate from the cutting blade (48). The isolating resilient layer may be formed as a solid layer, as a plurality of O-rings, or with a void therein.

    • A method is provided for manufacturing a segmented diamond blade (1). The method includes the steps of placing a core (2) into a mold and pouring a metal mixture into a mold cavity surrounding the core (2). The metal mixture is cold pressed to the core (2) to form a blade having a continuous outer rim (14). Thereafter, the core (2) and outer rim (14) are suspended in a free-sintering furnace which is heated to an initial diffusion bonding temperature. The core (2) and outer rim (14) are heated for an initial bonding time period. Thereafter, the furnace is heated to a final diffusion bonding temperature and the core (2) and the outer rim (14) are maintained at this temperature for a final diffusion bonding time period. After the blade (1) cools, it is placed in a cutting tool and segmented.
