    • In various embodiments, the implantable medical device comprises a baroreflex stimulator (1626) and a controller (1623). The baroreflex stimulator (1626) is adapted to generate a stimulation signal to stimulate a baroreflex. The controller (1623) is adapted to communicate with the baroreflex stimulator (1626) and implement a baroreflex stimulation protocol (1628) to vary an intensity of the baroreflex stimulation provided by the stimulation signal to abate baroreflex adaptation. According to various embodiments, the controller (1623) is adapted to implement the baroreflex stimulation protocol (1628) to periodically modulate the baroreflex stimulation to produce an effect that mimics an effect of pulsatile pressure.

    • Various device embodiments comprise at least one pulse generator and a controller to communicate with the pulse generator(s). The pulse generator(s) is (are) adapted to deliver a first electrical signal through at least one electrode positioned proximate to a vagus nerve and to deliver a second electrical signal through at least one electrode positioned within or proximate to the heart. The controller includes a module to provide epilepsy therapy that includes delivering the first electrical signal though the at least one electrode proximate to the vagus nerve and a module to provide a cardiac rhythm management (CRM) therapy that includes delivering the second electrical signal through at least one electrode positioned within or proximate to the heart. The CRM therapy includes at least one therapy selected from an antitachycardia therapy and a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).

    • A system, device and method for neural control of respiration are provided. One aspect of this disclosure relates to an implantable medical device for sensing and controlling respiration during incidence of central respiratory diseases. According to various embodiments, the device includes a sensing circuit to receive sensed signals representative of an incidence of a central respiratory disease. The device also includes a neural stimulator adapted to generate neural stimulation signals, and a controller to communicate with the sensing circuit and to control the neural stimulator to stimulate a desired neural target in response to the detection of the incidence of a central respiratory disease. In an embodiment, the device includes a plurality of sensors which are adapted to monitor physiological parameters to detect the incidence of a central respiratory disease and to send signals to the sensing circuit. Other aspects and embodiments are provided herein.
