    • This invention generally relates to image processing systems, and more particularly to systems and methods for displaying images using multi-line addressing (MLA) or total matrix addressing (TMA) techniques, with reduced noise. Embodiments of the invention are particularly useful for driving OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays. A method of driving an electroluminescent display to display an image, the method comprising: inputting image data for said image; determining, using said image data, a first set of image subframe data for a first plurality of image subframes each representing a common spatial portion of said image, wherein said first plurality of image subframes combine to approximate said common spatial portion of said image; driving said display using said first set of image subframe data; determining, using said image data, a second set of image subframe data for a second plurality of image subframes each representing said common spatial portion of said image, wherein said second plurality of image subframes combine to approximate said common spatial portion of said image; and driving said display using said second set of image subframe data

    • This invention relates to electronic devices incorporating a holographic projector. A holographic projection module for a consumer electronic device, the holographic projection module comprising: at least one substantially monochromatic light source (12); a spatial light modulator (24) (SLM) to phase modulate light (22) from said light source to provide a phase hologram for generating a two-dimensional displayed image (14); projection optics to project said phase modulated light to form said two-dimensional displayed image; wherein said projection optics comprise an optical system (26) configured to demagnify a conventional, non-holographic image, to increase the divergence of said light forming said displayed image,- and a digital signal processor (100) to generate data for a plurality of temporal holographic sub frames from a desired image for display, for modulating said SLM, such that temporal averaging amongst the subframes reduces the perceived level of noise, in said displayed image when images corresponding to the subframes are displayed successively and sufficiently fast that they are integrated together in the eye of a human observer.

    • We describe a method of projecting a colour image on a screen holographically, comprising: inputting colour image data comprising data for at least two colour planes of said image, a first, longer wavelength colour plane and a second, shorter wavelength colour plane; generating data for respective first and second holograms from said first and second colour planes, said first hologram having a greater resolution than said second hologram; and displaying said first and second holograms in turn on a common spatial light modulator (SLM) illuminated by light of respective said first and second wavelengths to project said colour image onto said screen; and wherein a scaling in resolution between said first and second holograms is dependent on scaling between said first and second wavelengths such that, when projected on said screen pixels of said image generated by said first and second holograms have substantially the same pitch.
