    • An adjustable strap (20) that limits separation of the strap portions from each other. The strap provides for quick and easy one hand operation by allowing a user to fully loosen and tighten the strap without the need for rejoining the strap portions to each other. The strap may also maintain the overlapping sections of the strap portions in close proximity and generally parallel to each other, such as when bending and/or adjusting the strap across a curved surface, to substantially reduce the likelihood of a loose strap end. The adjustable strap may include an engagement strap (22) with a fastening device, such as a ratchet buckle (24), mounted to one end thereof, and a ratchet strap (26) that passes through the ratchet buckle to be adjusted relative to the engagement strap for a desired tightness. The engagement strap may include a stop that coacts with the ratchet strap to limit relative movement between the engagement and ratchet straps. An elongated slot (38) may be disposed along the engagement strap to guide and limit travel of an anchor to which is fastened the tip (30) of the ratchet strap.

    • A highback (20) for controlling a gliding board, such as a snowboard, through leg movement of a rider. The highback (20) is provided with stiffness adjustability for accommodating the rider's particular riding preferences. Adjusting the highback stiffness allows the rider to selectively increase or decrease force transmission and board response based on individual riding preferences and/or riding conditions. Adjusting highback stiffness may also allow a rider to reduce pressure points between the highback (20) and the leg, particularly the rider's calf muscle, for increased comfort while maintaining heelside support for board control. The highback (20) includes a back member (22) that may employ one or more sections that can be selectively adjusted to achieve a desired highback stiffness for board response and comfort. The degree of stiffness may be established by adjusting the flexibility of the highback (20) at preselected locations of the back member (22). One or more interchangeable control elements (50, 52) may be mounted to the back member to adjust the highback stiffness.

    • A ratchet buckle and strap assembly is provided. The ratchet buckle (32) has a passageway (42) configured to slidably receive the strap (30), a pawl (56) arranged to engage the strap and prevent movement of the strap in a direction from the rear portion (54) toward the front portion (52), while allowing movement of the strap in a direction from the front portion toward the rear portion of the passageway, and a drive actuator (60) arranged to engage the strap and feed the strap through the passageway from the front portion toward the rear portion of the passageway. The strap may have a plurality of first teeth (34), and a plurality of separate second teeth (44). The first teeth may be on a first side (33) of the strap and the second teeth may be on a second side (35) of the strap. The ratchet buckle may be configured such that the pawl (56) is configured to engage a first side of the strap and the drive actuator may be configured to engage a second side of the strap opposite the first side.

    • A snowboard boot and binding system is disclosed which facilitates the engagement and disengagement of a snowboard boot and binding. The snowboard boot may include a boot engagement member extending from a rear of the boot. The boot engagement member is moved downwardly into a corresponding binding engagement member to provide an arrangement which prevents forward movement of the boot. The boot engagement member also may include one or more serrations to engage with one or more pawls on the binding to prevent upward movement of the boot. A snap-in arrangement may be provided in a boot toe region. The boot has protrusions extending outwardly from each side of the boot to engage with catches on the binding sidewalls. As the boot is pressed downwardly into the binding, the protrusions splay the catches until reaching recesses, at which point the catches rebound to capture the protrusions against upward movement.
