    • The invention relates to an acoustic flow meter arrangement and method, which comprises an primary and a secondary sound sources arranged to emit sound as periodical pseudo-static sequences in a step-wise manner to opposite stream-wise directions of the flow channel, and a first sensor having a distance to a second sensor, both sensors being arranged, synchronously to the emission steps of sound, to detect and to sample said sound into digital sensor sequences, wherein the arrangement comprises also a processor for processing from said sensor sequences a sum T sum and a difference T diff of upstream transit time and downstream transit time of sound between the locations of the sound sensors (1,2) for direct use as the sum and the difference in the determination of the flow velocity. According to the embodiment of the invention the secondary sound source in said arrangement can comprise at least one of the following: an arranged discontinuity of the flow channel, a reflector-attenuator, and a transducer unit (3) to emit sound, which is made up of the same discrete frequencies as the primary sound.

    • The invention concerns a flow metering techniques, which applies acoustic means and/or methods as embodied for an acoustic flow metering arrangement according to the invention. The flow metering can be implemented with an acoustic flow meter arrangement, which comprises a measuring section (1) provided with a sound source, at least two sound sensors and a reflector, being arranged so that the sound source of the acoustic flow meter arrangement and at least two sound sensors are arranged to mutual pre-defined distances in the measuring section. So, the determination of the sound velocity at rest ( c ) and the flow velocity ( v ), from the known distance between the sound source and the sensors, is obtainable from the values for sum ( T SUM ) and difference ( T DIF ) of the upstream and downstream transit times of sound between the sensor locations, by utilising the sound as directly propagated and as reflected.
