    • The invention relates to a material system comprising a matrix (7) and nanoparticles (3) incorporated into the matrix (7). The matrix (7) contains at least one matrix metal while the nanoparticles (3) have an average size of less than 50 nm and are each provided with at least one function carrier (4). The invention further relates to a method for producing such a material system on a substrate. Said method comprises the following steps: a substrate is provided; an electrolyte solution containing ions of a matrix metal is provided; nanoparticles (3) having an average size of less than 50 nm are produced; the nanoparticles (3) are charged with at least one function carrier (4); the electrolyte solution is mixed with the charged nanoparticles (3); the substrate is immersed into the electrolyte solution mixed with the charged nanoparticles (3); and the ions of the matrix metal contained in the electrolyte solution and the charged nanoparticles (3) are deposited on the substrate as a material system.
