    • The invention is a method and apparatus for delivering a stent, including, but not limited to, a self expanding stent, into a body lumen. The apparatus comprises an outer tube having a proximal end and a distal end and sized to hold a stent therein in a radially constricted condition, an inner tube within the outer tube and having a proximal end and a distal end, and a holding element comprising one or more inflatable balloons carried on the inner tube at the location of the loaded stent. The balloon can be inflated prior to the procedure so that the balloon presses against the inner surface of the outer tube trapping the stent in its longitudinal position between the inner and outer tubes. Accordingly, the outer tube can be slid proximally to release the stent or distally to retract the stent back into the delivery device without the stent inadvertently sliding.

    • A method and apparatus for inserting a self expanding stent (205) into a delivery device (200) and subseequently delivering the stent into a body lumen, the apparatus comprises an outer tube (203); an inner tube (201) within th eouter tube; a capturing element (206) slidably mounted on the inner tube (201) and including a foldable sleeve (207) with a proximal end smaller than the outer tube and a distal end larger than the outer tube, a blocking element (209) fixed to the inner tube adapted to block a stent from being inserted into the sleeve (207) proximally of the blocking element (209) and to block the capturing element (206) from becoming situated distally of a predetermined point relative to said inner tube (201). The stent (205) is deployed by inserting the delivery apparatus (200) into a body lumen to position the distal end of the delivery apparatus (200) adjacent a stent deployment site and drawing th eouter tube (203) proximally relative to the stent (205), which is blocked from being drawn along with the outer tube (203) by the blocking element (207) on th einner tube (201) so as to release the stent from its radially constricted condition.

    • An endoprosthesis includes a structure which is self-expandable from a reduced profile to an expanded profile. The structure has one or more longitudinal portions and a transverse central plane about which the one or more longitudinal portions are symmetric. A removable sheath retains the one or more longitudinal portions in the reduced profile. A release structure is coupled to the sheath for removal thereof from the one or more longitudinal portions to provide the self-expansion thereof to the expanded profile. A method for implanting the endoprosthesis into a body of a patient includes inserting the structure which is covered by the sheath into the body of the patient such that the structure has the reduced profile. The release structure is then actuated for removing the sheath from the one or more longitudinal portions to provide the self-expansion to the expanded profile.
