    • A self-indicating tensioning device (12) for adjusting the contacting force of a scraper blade (17) against the surface of an endless conveyor belt (10) is disclosed. The self-indicating tensioning device (12) includes a flat spring (30) coupled at one end to a rotatable shaft (24), which supports the scraper blade (17), and coupled at the other end of an adjusting mechanism (16). The adjusting mechanism is operable to exert a force on the flat spring (30) which in turn applies a torque to the rotatable shaft (24) for displacing the scraper blade (17). An indicator rod (32) has one end fixed to the rotatable shaft (24) for displacing the scraper blade (17), and the other end is free. A graduated indicator plate (36) is attached to the movable end of the flat spring (30). When the flat spring (30) is deflected in response to the application of force thereto, the displacement of the graduated indicator plate (36) relative to the free end of the indicator rod (32) provides an indication of the amount of force exerted on the flat spring (30), the amount of torque applied to the rotatable shaft (24), or the amount of force with which the scraper blade (17) contacts the conveyor belt (10).

    • A tensioning device (20) for adjusting the contacting/cleaning force of a scraper blade (16) on the surface of an endless conveyor belt (19) is provided for use on a shaft (18) supporting the scraper blade (16). The tensioning device (20) allows the shaft (18) to be rotated and locked in a position which is very close to its optimum cleaning position, thereby increasing the efficiency of the scraper assembly (10). The disclosed tensioning device has three collars (22, 24, and 28) with a spring (26) located in between the rotatable collar (28) and adjusting collar (24). Sequences of axially-directed apertures on the adjusting collar (24) and the stationary collar (22) move into and out of registry with each other as the adjusting collar (24) is rotated. A locking pin (58) is through the aligned holes in adjusting collar (24) and stationary collar (22) when the desired amount of torsion is applied to the shaft (18).

    • An improved blade for a scraper assembly used with the head pulley (18) of a conveyor system. The improved conveyor blade has a metal base (21) adapted to telescopically engage a rectangular plate (22) projecting radially from a support shaft (20) mounted for rotation about a rotary axis parallel to the head pulley axis, the metal base (21) having sheet-like outer walls disposed in spaced parallel relationship from a receptacle for the elastomeric body (23) of the blade.     • A conveyor system providing an improved skirting arrangement which enables easy adjustment of the skirtboards to compensate for wear and to accommodate to varying conveyor configurations having a conveyor belt (21) having a substantially horizontal segment with hopper walls (26) overlying the segment and providing a hopper channel (25) terminating at a distance above the belt to provide clearance space below the hopper walls, and a skirtboard (74) mounted on said hopper walls, projecting into said clearance spaces and terminating in flexible sealing flaps (75) confronting the upper surface of said belt (21) to limit the flow of particulate material (M) through the clearance space. The hopper walls (26) have upwardly-directed guide tracks (37) on their outward sides to receive elongated slides (44) for longitudinal displacement in the associated track (37). The skirtboard (74) extends transversely to and between adjacent slides (44) to position its flexible sealing flaps (75) in confronting relation to said conveyor (21). A bracket (54) is pivotally supported (47) by the slide (44) to mount the skirtboard (74) and has releasable latch means (55) to forcibly engage said skirtboard (74) with the hopper wall adjacent the lower edge (27) thereof. The skirt (75) may be adjusted by temporarily releasing the latches (55).
