    • A plurality of reaction tubes are in a reaction vessel cavity in which a cooling fluid passes through. A plurality of modular packings are provided in each tube, the packings comprising porous mesh sheet material made of sintered metal fibers having a diameter of about 1-30 microns coated with a catalyst, the material having a void volume of preferably about 80-95%. Each module is formed of a single sheet of material that is folded over at fold lines to form an intermediate interface that thermally conductively engages the tube and a pair of spaced parallel sections, the sections and interfaces forming a zig-zag structure to simplify manufacturing and insertion into the tubes. The sections are planar sheets with turbulence generators in the form of vanes formed from the sheet material and extending into the channels of adjacent sections. End vanes have arcuate edges for directly engaging the tube as do the end edges of the sections and the interfaces to provide enhanced thermal conductive engagement with the tube. The mesh material has a catalyst in the voids thereof. The vanes direct the fluid in the tubes against the sides of the tube bore and also create turbulence for promoting fluid flow through the mesh material.
