    • With a simple control not accompanied by any drastic modification of the apparatus size, it is possible to suppress capacity reduction of a mobile station in the entire mobile communication system. There is provided an information rate control method in a mobile communication system including a base station and a mobile station located in a radio zone formed by the base station so that radio communication is performed between the base station and the mobile station. The method includes a step S51 for measuring a reception quality of a signal from the base station by the mobile stations upon start of radio communication, a step S52 for calculating the reference quality as a reference for deciding the information rate according to the reception quality, i.e., as the reception quality is lowered, the reference quality is set lower, a step S53 for deciding the information rate according to the reference quality, and a step S54 for notifying the decided information rate to the base station.

    • A downstream user data signal destined to a particular mobile station (4−1) is always transmitted from one base station while switching a plurality of base stations (3−1, 3−2, 3−3, ...). A first downstream signal destined to the mobile station is transmitted from one base station or a plurality of base stations by a first downstream radio channel (downstream A−DPCH). The transmission power of a second downstream radio channel (PDSCH, HS−SCCH) transmitting a second downstream signal is offset from the transmission power of the first downstream radio channel and interlocked with the transmission power of the first downstream radio channel. When the number of diversity branches of the base station simultaneously communicating with the first downstream radio channel for one mobile station is large, the offset of the transmission power of the second downstream radio channel is increased, and when the number is small, the offset is reduced. Thus, it is possible to always maintain a preferable reception quality of the second downstream signal transmitted from a particular base station during diversity reception.
