    • A fuel cell system comprising a fuel cell, a fuel gas supply device and an oxidant gas supply device, and a control device, the system further comprising a fuel cell temperature controlling device and a humidifying device for humidifying fuel gas to be supplied to the fuel cell and oxidant gas; and its operation method. The fuel gas system normally disconnects the electrical connection between the fuel cell and a load as required to stop its operation, which, if continued for a long period of time, poses such problems that the power generating performance of the fuel cell deteriorates with time. The above problems are solved by providing the fuel cell system with the control device that, before disconnecting the electrical connection between the fuel cell and a load, controls at least any of the temperature controlling device, a humidifying device, the fuel cell and the fuel gas supply device to allow at least one of the dew point Tda of the fuel gas and the dew point Tdc of the oxidant gas to agree with the temperature Tcell of the fuel cell, and then disconnects the electrical connection between the fuel cell and a load.
