    • Devices for the management of contact spots, partly consisting of surface plating, partly of surface polishing and partly of substrate surface profiling in the form of parallel grooves stretched out in the direction of sliding and/or of isolated asperities. The management of the contact spots is designated to generate, at electrical brush interfaces, a large number of contact spots of pre-determined shapes and distribution that promote low electrical contact resistance and long wear life. Preferably, the substrate is coated with a hard, highly conductive coating that is resistant to wear and chemical attack. The invention is similarly applicable also to electrical switches wherein it will assure reduction of interfacial resistance as well as of sticking forces. Finally, it may also be used for the efficient transfer of heat across interfaces.

    • MP-D Machines are direct current machines of the multipolar type, i.e. machines whose torque is produced in a cylindrical current tube through axially oriented current flow in a plurality of turns between pairs of parallel permanent magnet poles attached to cylindrical concentric magnet tubes. Unlike other multipolar type machines, MP-D machines' magnet tubes comprise a plurality of permanent magnets in the form of continuous circumferential sleeves. The current tube in MP-D machines remains stationary while at least one of the two magnet tubes rotates. MP-D machines may be powered or may generate direct current.

    • A new type of homopolar machine wherein a “current channeling” rotor of high lengthwise electrical conductivity but essentially insulating in circumferential direction, rotates between cylindrically aligned parallel magnet poles of alternating polarity. These generate strip-shaped “zones” in the rotor wall that are penetrated by radial magnetic fields of alternating orientation. Currents passing to and fro along the zones are constrained by the current channeling and are conducted from zone to zone by means of electrical brushes on slip rings at either rotor end. Thereby several to many current “turns” are possible in any one rotor, in all of which the Lorentz force has the same angular orientation. Additionally two or more electrically insulating but mechanically fused concentric rotors may be used for additional current “turns”. As a result high voltages are possible even at modest speeds. Multipolar machines may be used as motors, generators, transformers, electric heaters, and optionally simultaneously in any combination.
