    • A method for computer interaction includes defining in a computer (24) a three- dimensional (3D) environment containing one or more graphical objects (36) having respective 3D object locations. A 3D user location of a user (22) of the computer is tracked. Responsively to the 3D user location, a view of the 3D environment is projected onto a two- dimensional (2D) display (26) viewed by the user. Location and orientation coordinates of a controller (34) held by the user are also tracked, so as to define a trajectory (38) directed by the user from the controller into the 3D environment. The computer detects and indicates to the user that the trajectory has intercepted a 3D location (32) of a graphical object in the 3D environment while the trajectory does not intercept a corresponding 2D location of the graphical object on the display.
