    • A noise suppression apparatus (5) for use in a receiver includes an input terminal (17) adapted to receive an inbound signal. A channel splitter (18) is coupled to the input terminal and configured to split the inbound signal to a substantially identical first signal (20) and second signal (22). A fisrt mixer (24) coupled to the channel splitter and configured to receive the first signal, and a second mixer (30) coupled to the channel splitter and configured to receive the second signal. A first local oscillator (26) is coupled to the first mixer and configured to generate a first LO frequency signal (LO1), and a second local oscillator (32) coupled to the second mixer and configured to generate a second LO frequency signal (LO2), where the first LO frequency signal and the second LO frequency signal differ from each other. The first mixer is configured to mix the first signal with the first LO frequency signal to create a second mixed signal, and the second miquency signal to create a second mixed signal. A combiner (44) is coupled to the first mixer and the second mixer are configured to combine the first mixed signal with the second mixed signal to create a noise suppressed output signal.

    • A system (100) and method for providing high capacity voice and high speed data communication between user equipment terminals (UEs 104) and a public network (108). Generally, the system (100) includes a community Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN 102) having a centralized base transceiver station (CBTS 114) coupled to a public network (108), and several remote transceiver stations (RTSs 118) each coupled to several UEs (104), and, via a radio link, to the CBTS. In one embodiment, the CBTS (114) and RTSs (118) include a Global Systems for Mobile communication/General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS) transceiver (148, 154) to provide data communication, and a WLAN transceiver (150, 156) to provide voice communication. Preferably, the WLAN transceiver (150, 156) is compatible with an open standard, such as IEEE 802.11. More preferably, the CBTS (114) and RTSs (118) include frequency converters (152, 158), to up?convert a frequency of signals generated in at least one of the transceivers to couple the CBTS to the RTS via a signal at a frequency above standard GSM frequencies.
