    • In one embodiment a cartridge holder includes: a body (82) having a plurality of bays (72-80) therein for holding a cartridge (62a-70a or 62b-70b) and each bay (72-80) having an electrical connector (146) associated therewith for connecting to a chip (86-94 or 106-104); an adapter (84 or 84a-84e) removably attachable to the body (82) at a bay (72-80), the adapter (84 or 84a-84e) having a site (116-124) for a chip (96-104) at a location where a chip (96-104) installed at the chip site (116-124) is connected to a connector (146) in the bay (72-80) when the adapter (84 or 84a-84e) is attached to the body (82); and each bay (72-80) configured to hold: without an adapter (84 or 84a-84e) attached to the body (82) at the bay (72-80), a first cartridge (62a-70a) having a first shape and a chip (86-94) thereon, and, with the adapter (84 or 84a-84e) attached to the body (82) at the bay (72-80), a second cartridge (62b-70b) having a second shape different from the first shape and the second cartridge (62b-70b) not having a chip (86-94) thereon.

    • A printing method includes obtaining an initial printer profile corresponding to a printing system having a plurality of ink colors, identifying a remaining ink parameter corresponding to each of the ink colors, and determining whether the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are approximately equal to each other such that: performing a print job using the initial printer profile when the remaining ink parameter determination is that the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are approximately equal to each other, and determining a modified printer profile by selectively changing color saturation for one or more of the ink colors to balance ink usage and performing the print job using the modified printer profile when the remaining ink parameter determination is that the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are not approximately equal to each other.
