    • A method is described for designing and/or producing micro-structured fibres (100a, 100b, 100c) having a predetermined polarimetric sensitivity to temperature. The method allows obtaining highly birefringent micro- structured fibres having a limited temperature sensitivity or being temperature independent for specific wavelengths. The latter is obtained by propex-ly selection of the fibre geometry or, if the micro-structured fibre has an arbitrary geometry, by properly choosing the glass used for its manufacturing. The method comprises obtaining information about the geometry and/or about the material to be used. This information then can be used for producing micro-structured fibres. The necessary information about the geometry and/or about the construction material to be used can be obtained based on a model for the temperature sensitivity of birefringent micro-structured fibres. Furthermore, micro- structured fibres having a polarimetric sensitivity to temperature not larger than a predetermined value or even being temperature insensitive for a wide range of temperatures are described.
