En concreto, se refiere a un procedimiento diagnóstico/pronóstico basado en modelos predictivos multivariantes generados a partir de los niveles de distintas combinaciones de citoquinas pro-inflamatorias (IL1alfa, IL1beta e IL17A) y anti-inflamatorias (IFNgamma, IL2, IL12p70, IL3, IL4, IL5, IL10 e IL3) en tejido o fluidos orales para el diagnóstico de las enfermedades periodontales, su progresión y su respuesta a las diferentes intervenciones terapéuticas. En un ejemplo particular, estas combinaciones de citoquinas mostraron una excelente capacidad de discriminar (≥95%) la presencia de una periodontitis crónica con respecto a una situación de salud gingival/periodontal, así como porcentajes de precisión ≥92% en la mayoría de las combinaciones.
