The methods allow the upper and lower assemblies of the LCD device to be manufactured with selected materials while achieving adjusted or reduced intrinsic DC offset potential in the finished LCD device. The methods are especially useful for reflective LCD designs where it is not possible to build the LCD with symmetric assemblies.

摘要： A liquid crystal display (LCD) system, comprising a matrix of pixels, actuates each pixel by applying positive and negative voltage differences across a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is parallel to a transparent cover. The transparent cover is adjacent to a cover electrode. Each pixel includes a pixel electrode positioned on the opposite side of the liquid crystal layer from the cover electrode. The positive and negative voltage differences are asymmetric to compensate for polarity-dependent characteristics of the LCD materials. The positive and negative voltage differences are applied for durations that counterbalance the asymmetric rates of charge accumulation.

摘要： A display matrix is provided for forming a composite image from a series of sub-images. In general, the display matrix includes a plurality of display elements (1014), each display element including a pixel, and a display circuit electrically connected to the pixel. An illumination source (3002) illuminates each of the pixels. Logic controls (3016) the intensity of each pixel utilizing a digitally controlled waveform for controlling a duration of time that illumination is allowed to pass through liquid crystal of the display elements (3014). Intensity values for each pixels are stored in memories (3006,3010) that are associated with the individual pixels of a display. Each of the pixels is set to a first state. A first intensity level is broadcast to the pixels. The first intensity level is analyzed (3004) with the intensity value stored in the pixel memories (3006,3010).

摘要： A liquid crystal display (LCD) charges column capacitance with quantized charge injection from a current source. A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) injects amplitude and/or time duration controlled current pulses, using a current mirror, to charge each column capacitance to a desired voltage charge. The rate of charge is linear and fast, and no power is wasted as would be from quiescent current required in a voltage charging device used in a voltage injection column capacitance configuration. Variations in column capacitance may be compensated for by adding capacitance thereto or adjusting the amplitude and/or the pulse-width time of a current pulse being injected into the column capacitance.

摘要： A reflective liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) display comprises a transparent substrate, a reflective substrate, and liquid crystal fluid between the substrates. The LCOS display further comprises a matrix of pixels, arranged in a plurality of rows and columns, wherein an intersection of a row and a column defines a position of a pixel in the matrix. The tilt angles sufficient to overcome disclinations due to fringe fields, and, at vertically aligned liquid crystal molecules have the same time, archieves high contrast. The surface azimuthal direction of the molecules of the liquid crystal fluid is either substantially parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the molecules of polarization of incoming incident linearly polarized light. Light leakage is minimal because the effective birefringence as seen by the incoming incident linearly polarized light is substantially zero and does not depend on the pretilt of the molecules of the liquid crystal fluid. Between the transparent substrate and the reflective substrate, the twist of the molecules of the liquid crystal fluid may vary from about 0 degrees to about 90 degrees when in the "OFF" state.
