    • A method of culturing a nematode, Steinernema kushidai, in a medium. It has a potent insecticidal effect on larvae of beetles and requires culturing conditions different from those for other nematodes parasitic in insects in order to culture it in a large quantity. S. kushidai acquires an enhanced activity of killing insects injurious to plants such as field crops by culturing it in a steroid-containing medium. It can be cultured at a high efficiency by using a laminate made by holding the steroid-containing medium on a support through adsorption and stacking a plurality of such supports one on another with a gap provided therebetween. Furthermore, S. kushidai having a high rate of proliferation and a potent insecticidal effect can be produced by culturing it in a steroid-containing liquid medium by supplying oxygen under agitation. The obtained S. kushidai is used as a biological pesticide to reduce insect damages to field crops such as potato.
