    • Owing to the relatively slow operation of the main tripping pin (3) of an isolator switch (1), it is customary to provide a spring-biased auxiliary tripping pin (7) located inside the main tripping pin (3). Like the main tripping pin (3), the auxiliary tripping pin (7) comes to rest against a cooperating contact (28) where it remains at the beginning of the switching movement until it is moved back to its normal position by the spring (8), released by a mechanical control mechanism (14), at a speed greater than that of the main tripping pin (3). In the isolator switch of the invention, the mechanical control mechanism (14) includes a rotatably mounted lever system (15) which is self-locking in its normal position and which grips the auxiliary tripping pin (7) until the pin is released by a control surface (21) joined to the main tripping pin. The cooperating contact (28) for the auxiliary tripping pin (7) is also spring-biased and follows the auxiliary tripping pin (7) for a certain distance after it is released, maintaining electrical contact.
