    • The present invention is generally directed to medical imaging systems, and more particularly to a control panel for a medical imaging system. In one embodiment, a medical imaging system includes an imaging display device, an imaging processor communicatively coupled to the imaging display device, and an imaging catheter communicatively coupled to the imaging display device and imaging processor. The imaging system further includes a control panel communicatively coupled to the imaging display device and imaging/acquisition processor, wherein the control panel includes a first control device for controlling workflow and a second control device for controlling imaging. In one embodiment of the invention the first control device is a touch screen display device and the second control device is a touch pad and select button.

    • The present application provides systems and methods for reducing noise in an imaging catheter system (1000). In an embodiment, a catheter (1020) comprises an imaging transducer (340) and a transmission line (1125) within the catheter to transmit signals to and from the transducer. To reduce noise caused by exposure of the transmission line to external interference, a choke balun (1150) is coupled to the transmission line. In another embodiment, the signal from a rotating imaging transducer of the catheter is coupled to a motor drive unit by a slip ring assembly (1130). The transducer signal is passed through first (1160) and second (1220) transformers placed on opposite sides of the slip ring assembly to reduce noise from the slip ring assembly. In another embodiment, the catheter includes a position sensor to track the position of the catheter. The position sensor (320) is coupled to a second choke balun to further reduce noise.

    • The present invention generally relates to medical devices, and more particularly to an improved medical imaging device. In one embodiment, an imaging device includes a drive shaft having proximal and distal ends received within the lumen; an imaging transducer coupled to the distal end of the drive shaft and positioned at the distal portion of the elongate member; and a flow detector coupled to the imaging transducer. The flow detector may include a forward facing ultrasound transducer configured to emit energy in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the imaging device and detect a Doppler shift in the received echoes. In the case where the imaging device is located in a vessel having blood flow, such information may be used to calculate the velocity of the blood flow. The imaging device may be configured to be located in a catheter or guidewire.

    • The systems and methods described herein provide for a forward looking guidewire having a reduced radial cross-section for increased maneuverability and use of the guidewire within more narrow vasculature. The guidewire can include an elongate tubular member having a distal region, proximal region and inner lumen and a forward looking imaging device coupled with the distal end of the guidewire. The distal region of the guidewire can be relatively more flexible than the proximal region. The guidewire can also include a second, side looking imaging device, which can be coupled around a longitudinal portion of the guidewire in the radial or proximal regions.
