    • The aim is to improve a compressor comprising the following elements: a helical compressor with a first compressor element and a second compressor element whose helical ribs in the form of circle involutes engage with one another and can move relative to one another in an orbital movement about an axis, a medium to be compressed being taken in on the inlet side, successively compressed in chambers formed between the compressor elements and discharged on the outlet side; a drive motor; and a cam driven by the drive motor for producing the orbital motion of one of the compressor elements, a radial and an axial sealing force being generated between the compressor elements. The improvement is such as to maximise the isentropic total efficiency. To achieve this, it is proposed that a sealing force-generating unit producing the radial sealing force relative to the axis should be provided between the cam and orbiting compressor element, its pressure chamber acted on by a pressurised medium kept under a pressure which is proportional to the outlet-side pressure of the medium to be compressed.
