    • A visual display system for use with a digital thermostat is provided. The visual display system provides an adjustable display resolution for the temperature readout provided thereon. This adjustable display resolution may be changed as desired by a user via a resolution adjustment menu. The display resolution may be adjusted to display the temperature information in tenths of degrees, half degrees, whole degrees, etc. as desired by a user. Such a display system accommodates different display resolution requirements of different original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers who may desire different displayed resolutions without having to manufacture and stock different models.

    • A pilot valve assembly includes a mounting bracket having at least three sides, including an anchor panel extending between first and second generally parallel leg panels. A four-sided mounting bracket, having a top leg panel connecting distal ends of the first and second leg panels is also disclosed. Disposed through the first leg panel and preferably through the second leg panel are respectively first and second apertures which define an axis line. A solenoid coil having a central bore is placed between the leg panels such that the central bore is aligned with the axis line. A pilot valve body is inserted through the first aperture and into the central bore such that an end of the pilot valve body is adjacent the second leg panel and secured thereto by various methods. The mounting bracket can be made from a single, integral blank.

    • A wide input voltage range relay drive circuit allowing a more than 2:1 input voltage variation is provided. The circuit utilizes a scaled and rectified bulk voltage to drive the relay coil. As the monitored bulk voltage increases beyond the relay coil rated voltage, the circuit pulse width multiplexes this bulk voltage to protect the relay coil. The bulk voltage switching does not begin, however, until the relay energizes. To reduce the power dissipation during the PWM switching, of the relay coil, a power dissipating switch is included and held on during the PWM switching events. To further increase relay life, the circuit controls the energizing of the relay coil to actuate the contacts of the relay at or near a zero cross of the power switched thereby.

    • Provided is a reversing valve that can reverse flow in a refrigeration system. The reversing valve includes a valve body extending between a first end and an opposing second end. Multiple ports are disposed through the first and second ends. In one aspect, to reduce the pressure drop across the valve body, flow is channeled generally straightly between the ends. This is accomplished by a valve member defining a channel that is coupled to a port at the first end while pivotally movable to intersect different ports at the second end. Flow direction in the system is determined by which port at the second end is intersected. In another aspect, to move the valve member, the reversing valve includes a permanent magnet joined to the valve member and an electromagnet extending partly around the valve body. Applying different polarities to the electromagnet moves the permanent magnet and the valve member.

The system may include counters that can be read-only, reset to zero and overwritten through the plurality of input devices. Historical data can be recorded, reviewed and selectively analyzed.

    • A control unit is attached to or embedded within a refrigeration appliance to monitor electric power voltage and/or frequency supplied by the mains. If the unit detects a sag or peak in either the voltage or frequency, the control unit either separates any high demand elements of the appliance from the mains to reduce demand in a sag or energizes the elements in a peak. When the control system separates the refrigeration compressor from the mains, a food spoilage monitoring system monitors the food storage compartments. This system utilizes food industry temperature and time algorithms to ensure the food does not spoil. If food spoilage could occur, the unit re-energizes the compressor to allow it to lower the temperature provided the power is sufficient to operate the compressor unit without damaging it. Once the sensed temperature is restored to a safe level, the unit separates the compressor from the mains.
