    • A method for separating filterable particle from a liquid suspension, e.g. white water cleaning for paper machines. Movable, cyclically operating filter elements are used, which in succession and repeatedly pass an operating cycle during which a layer containing the particles is successively built up on the filter elements under the influence of a pressure difference applied over these. From the beginning of each cycle a separate filtering medium, a so called sweetener, is applied on to the filter elements likewise under the action of the pressure difference. The pulp built up on the filter elements and consisting of the particles and said sweetener, the particle pulp, is removed from the filter elements during the end portion of the cycle. In order to obtain higher cleaning efficiency and higher capacity of the filters the liquid suspension is brought to pass successively through at least two steps (2, 4) of each one set (6, 8) of said cyclically operating filter elements, sweetener being introduced (10) to the last step (4) from outside and as sweetener for the preceding step (2) is introduced (24) the removed particle pulp from the following step (4).
