    • The present disclosure describes a nested plant grow tray and methods of using the same for growing plants in limited space that minimizes the human intervention required to move multiple plants from one location to another location (such as, without limitation, to thin the plants or to move plants into or out of nutrient-enriched water in a hydroponic system) and that minimizes damage to plants during such movement. The nested plant grow tray comprises stackable, unstackable, interchangeable plant grow panels defining a plurality of openings for receiving plant grow cups and a plurality of openings for receiving the canopies of plants therethrough. The plant grow cups have resilient, deformable rims that enable secure holding of the cups in place, while permitting easy insertion and removal from the plant grow panels. Slot- like openings in each plant grow cup make removal of a plant therefrom possible without significant plant damage.

    • A method and apparatus for improving nutrient delivery to plants in a hydroponics system is disclosed. A farming assembly in accordance with the various embodiments of the present invention include a frame (18), a flume (12), and an adjuster (16). The frame is configured to hold a plurality of plants (14) in plant receiving positions above a flume, wherein the flume contains a liquid such as a water and nutrient solution. The adjuster controls the distance between the plurality of plants in the frame and the liquid in the flume by either raising the frame with respect to the flume, lowering the flume with respect to the frame, or utilizing a gate (36) as a dam within the flume. Thus, the various embodiments of the present invention adjust the ratio of roots (19) exposed to air or immersed in liquid. By controlling the distance between the liquid and the roots of the plants, the present invention allows the plants to receive exposure to the air for a certain amount of time (such as thirty minutes), and then, become immersed in the liquid for a certain amount of time, which has the effect of increasing nutrient delivery to the plants and increasing plant growth speed.

    • A luminaire system, apparatus, and method of using thereof, is disclosed for optimizing plant growth in a controlled farming environment. Different types of plants have different light requirements, and different inputs to controlled farming environment have different costs. For example, there may be certain times of day where, if power is not used, a cost savings is realized. Thus, the present invention provides a luminaire system for these controlled farming environments that receives light requirement information for the different types of plants, and in turn, adjusts the luminaire light source (110) via a luminaire light interface (106) to based on the light requirement information. The light requirement information may include spectrum in¬ formation for the type of spectrum required or needed by the plants, power cost or savings information, or light quantity information representing the maximum amount of light to be provided to the plants in the controlled environment.
