    • A manganese dry battery which is stable and has an excellent gas tightness with any type of heat-shrinkable tube. The manganese dry battery comprises an anode zinc can (1), a cathode mixture (2) contained in the can, a separator (14) interposed between the can and the mixture, a carbon rod (3) inserted in the center of the mixture, a gasket (5) sealing the opening of the can and having a hole in the center thereof through which the carbon rod is inserted and a heat-shrinkable tube (6) covering the circumference of the can with the outer periphery of the gasket. The heat-shrinkable tube comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene and a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and a sealant (9) is applied at least between the opening end of the can and the gasket.

    • A manganese dry battery having a high reliability for explosion prevention by employing a new gasket shape, which is easily manufactured and controlled in terms of its dimensions, as well as an explosion proof mechanism. The manganese dry battery comprises a gasket (3) having an internal cylinder (13) which closely adheres to and holds a carbon rod, an external cylinder (14) which closely adheres to an inner wall of an opening of a zinc can, and a connecting portion (15) which connects the internal cylinder and the external cylinder; and a cathode terminal plate which fits to a top surface of the carbon rod, the battery being sealed by caulking an opening end of the zinc can and an outer periphery of the cathode terminal plate via an upper end of the external cylinder, wherein a cut-out portion (16) is provided in at least a part of an upper portion of the internal cylinder of the gasket, such that the gasket is deformed upon an increase in battery internal pressure to form a gap between the gasket and the carbon rod, and a gas is released from a vent hole provided to the cathode terminal plate through the gap.
