    • The machine is an alternative to a conventional single faced corrugated board manufacturing unit. Single face of board manufactured by this machine has one medium (23) bonded to a liner (21) or two fluted mediums (23, 22), bonded at their flute tips, one of these being bonded to a liner. In the formation of standard single faced corrugated board with one medium, the medium (23) is corrugated between a standard corrugating roll (10) loaded against a matching carrier roll (36) and is retained in the matching roll (36) after corrugating. In the formation of flute tip to flute tip double medium board, one corrugating roll (10) is loaded against a grooved carrier roll (36), the first corrugated medium is formed and also retained fully conforming to the grooves in the carrier roll. The second corrugated medium (22) is formed by pressure loading a pair of corrugating rolls (34, 35). The thus formed corrugated medium is held to the second corrugating roll (35) which is precisely positioned relative to the grooves in the carrier roll such that the two mediums (22, 23) are bonded flute tip to flute tip. Adhesive applicators (12, 37) are provided to apply adhesive to one of the mediums prior to the flute tip to flute tip bonding and to coat the flute tips of the medium or the bonded fluted structure on the carrier roll for bonding to the liner (21). An additional guide roll (38) is provided to allow tangential approach for the liner (21) onto the medium (22), or the flute to flute structure carried by the grooved carrier roll (36). Energy (39) is used to assist in bonding the liner (21) to the medium (22) or the flute to flute tip structure enabling a low pressure bonding technique to be used.

The container comprises a base (4), a body (2), and neck (1), wherein the body (2) comprises an odd number of spaced-apart panels (5) that are responsive to internal pressure changes in the container. Hot fill bottles of a given capacity having an uneven number of deformable panels e.g., five of a given wall thickness unexpectedly accommodate significantly higher volume reductions before collapsing and distorting in an uncontrolled manner than known hot fill bottles of the same capacity having an even number of panels e.g., six of the same wall thickness.
