摘要： A method of producing an authenticatable article. An overt feature is produced in the article using a fabricating technique which is selected based on a material of the article so as to produce the overt feature having predetermined, reproducible macroscopic characteristics as well as random, non-reproducible microscopic characteristics rendering the article physically unique. The overt feature including the microscopic characteristics are imageable using a predetermined imaging technology to produce an overt feature image. An authentication signature is generated based on the overt feature image and stored in a central database. The overt feature may alternatively be produced in an apparatus or means used to manufacture authenticatable articles such that the overt feature including the random, microscopic characteristics is reproduced in the articles. The overt feature and generated authentication code therefore corresponds to articles manufactured using that apparatus or means.

摘要： A machine and method for reducing giveaway material on mint products. The machine may include a conveying assembly for conveying a plurality of mints products to be processed. The machine may also include a processing assembly for processing at least one given mint product at a time, so as to remove an amount of giveaway material from each one of the mint products. The machine may also include a recuperating assembly for recuperating mint products having being processed. The method may include the steps of a) evaluating at least one physical parameter of a given mint product to be processed; b) comparing said at least one physical parameter of the mint product to be processed with a minimum threshold physical parameter in order to determine an attainable range of giveaway material to be removed; c) projecting a targeted amount of giveaway material to be removed from the mint product to be processed depending on the attainable range of giveaway material; and d) removing the targeted amount of giveaway material via at least one surface of the mint product.

摘要： Golden bronze appearance article, multiple-layer substrate, related methods and uses thereof, particularly for coinage blanks. Methods of producing an article having a golden bronze appearance include annealing a multiple-layer substrate at an annealing temperature for an annealing residence time. The multiple-layer substrate includes a 10 core, contiguous to a copper layer and subsequent tin layer. The annealing temperature and annealing residence time are controlled in accordance with each other for allowing diffusion of the tin layer into the copper layer and producing an annealed substrate comprising an inter-diffused outer bronze layer having a golden appearance. The tin layer thickness is in accordance to the copper layer thickness such that the inter-diffused outer bronze layer has a tin content between about 8%wt. and about 15.8%wt. The core has a sufficiently low content of nickel to reduce or prevent formation of intermetallic compound comprising tin and nickel proximate to the core during annealing.

摘要： Generally, the present disclosure relates to a composite structure having at least three different components, and a process for manufacturing the same. The structure may be, but need not be, a metal coin. In one embodiment, the structure comprises an outer ring and two inserts stacked on top of each other and disposed within the outer ring. The outer ring and each of the two inserts are made of different materials. The outer ring and each of the inserts are locked together by a plurality of recesses formed in outer circumferential surfaces of the inserts. The structure may further comprise at least one interlayer disposed between the two inserts for adhering the two inserts to one another. The three major components and the interlayer may be made into a single structure by a striking force during coining or striking.
