摘要： The present invention relates to quaternary ammonium salts and their use as mold inhibitors. The quaternary salts can be prepared by a chloride ion-promoted reaction between a tertiary amine and an alcohol or polyol in strong acid solution. The quaternary ammonium salts can be applied to a substrate in order to impart anti-mold properties to the substrate. Preferably, the quaternary ammonium salt compounds are applied to paper substrates in an amount of about 1000 ppm. Preferably, the quaternary ammonium salts compounds are applied as mixtures of more than one quartemary ammonium salt compound. The treated substrate does not require encapsulators, binders, or retention aids.

The acidic mixture or composition can be isolated from a mixture prepared by mixing a salt of phosphoric acid, and a preformed, or in-situ generated, solution or suspension of an acidic sparingly-soluble Group IIA complex ("AGIIS"), wherein the solution or suspension of AGIIS is in an amount sufficient to render the acidic pH of the composition to be less than about 2. An adduct which contains the acidic composition discussed above and an additive. Also a method to reduce biological contaminants in a nutriment material using the acidic composition or the adduct.

摘要： A food additive composition comprising ε-polylysine in higher than normal concentrations and optionally in combination with an acidic adjuvant. The acidic adjuvant may be a low pH solution of sparingly-soluble Group IIA-complexes (“AGIIS”), a highly acidic metalated organic acid (“HAMO”), or a highly acidic metalated mixture of inorganic acids (“HAMMIA”). The food additive composition is an effective bacteriostatic preservative against pathogenic microorganisms which may be present in food products. Blending food products such as ground meats and flour-based products with the food additive with or without an acidic adjuvant causes a reduction in the number of detectable microbes for an extended period of time.

摘要： The present invention pertains to an apparatus (100) for mixing mineral acid (e.g. sulfuric acid) and hydroxide bases (e.g. calcium hydroxide) to produce various useful mixtures (e.g. cleaning products, food production, etc.). The present invention provides an apparatus for reproducibly injecting an acid and a base to form a mixture in a controlled environment. In one aspect, the apparatus comprises a chamber (110) having a distribution-blending-cooling dish (120) suspended above the mixing chamber, an acid delivery system (130) for introducing diluted acid into the chamber above the distribution-blending-cooling dish, and a base delivery system (150) for introducing the base into the chamber by passing the base through the distribution-blending-cooling dish. The acid is injected preferentially and circumferenceially to provide, enhance, and cause thorough blending. The injectors or eductors (109) are in the mixing chamber, and the distribution-blending-cooling dish is secondary to the initial introduction of acid. The mixture is re-circulated out the bottom of the chamber and up to the distribution-blending-cooling dish along with the base.

摘要： The present invention relates to modified "aqua feed," or fish and shrimp feed, having enhanced antimicrobial properties effective at suppressing and controlling infection. The modified feed composition includes an acidulant, such as ACS or HAMO, as well as optionally a clay material and a desiccant. The ACS is preferably at a normality of 5-10 N. The clay material has been shown to be effective at adsorption of aflatoxins. The pH of the feed composition is preferably about 4.5 to about 5.0.
