摘要： Certain embodiments of the invention may be found in a method and system for performing a SCSI read operation via a TCP offload engine. Aspects of the method may comprise receiving an iSCSI read command from an initiator (118). Data may be fetched from a buffer based on the received iSCSI read command. The fetched data may be zero copied from the buffer to the initiator (118) and a TCP sequence may be retransmitted to the initiator. The method may further comprise checking if the zero copied fetched data is a first frame in an iSCSI protocol data unit and if the buffer is posted. The retransmitted TCP sequence may be processed and the fetched data may be zero copied into an iSCSI buffer, if the buffer is posted.

摘要： A network switch having PHY integrated with the switch. The switch also integrates MAC with PHY. The PHY, MAC, and switch are integrated onto a single VLSI component. The network switch implements an IEEE Standard 802.3 communication protocol which may include autonegotiation, flow control, and duplexing. The communication protocol can include a 10Base-T communication protocol and a 100Base-T communication protocol. The switch includes an Address Resolution Table using associative memory. A free buffer pool, Transmit Descriptor Table, a Packet Storage Table, and combinations thereof also may reside with the Address Resolution Table in a shared memory block. Each PHY/MAC pair in the switch employs only a single Link Partner Capability Register. The switch uses a common system clock which is driven by a single clock source. The PLL that drives the PHY also drives the switch functions through a first clock generator. A second clock generator is used to drive devices external to the switch, such as memory.

A dedicated management port may be configured in the network controller to enable receiving and/or transmitting local host-management traffic communicated from and/or to the local host separate from the local host's network traffic communicated via the network controller.
