    • A buoyant offshore platform (102) for supporting a renewable energy system (116) in a body of water (104) is provided, the body of water having a surface (106) and a bed (110). The buoyant offshore platform comprises a base portion (118) for submerging below said surface of said body of water; a top portion for remaining above said surface of said body of water; one or more mooring lines (108) for fixing the buoyant offshore platform to said bed of said body of water; and a tensioning means (130) for applying tension to the one or more mooring lines. The buoyant offshore platform further comprises a floating configuration in which the buoyant offshore platform is positioned substantially floating on said surface of said body of water; wherein the buoyant offshore platform comprises a deployed configuration in which the base portion is submerged beneath said surface of said body of water and the top portion remains above said surface of said body of water. In use, the tensioning means is arranged to apply tension to the one or more mooring lines fixed between the buoyant offshore platform and said bed of said body of water such that the buoyant offshore platform transitions between the floating configuration and the deployed configuration. The described platform aims to provide a safer and more efficient mode of deploying a buoyant offshore platform to a partially submerged operating configuration.

    • An offshore renewable energy system mounting platform is provided for positioning a renewable energy converter in a body of water. The platform comprises: a frame having a first structural member and a second structural member, the first and second structural members positioned adjacent one another at a mating connection; and at least one mooring member affixed to the frame at a tethering location, the at least one mooring member arranged to tether the frame to a bed of the body of water in an in-use configuration; wherein at least one of the first and second structural members comprises a buoyancy; and wherein in the in-use configuration, a tension in the mooring member is arranged to counteract said buoyancy to urge and/or bias the first and second structural members together at the mating connection. The present disclosure aims to provide a platform that can been manufactured as a set of pre-fabricated modular components in a wide supply chain, which are subsequently assembled into the complete platform at non-specialist outdoor yard facilities without the need for specialist shipbuilding facilities, and which provides optimum stability when deployed.

    • A generator for capturing and converting wave energy into a more useful form is provided. The generator comprises: at least one energy capturing float (2) which is movable in response to wave motion; a reaction member (1) to be positioned below the energy capturing float; connecting lines (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) for connecting the at least one energy capturing float to the reaction member and defining a spacing (D2) between the energy capturing float and the reaction member; energy convertors (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) for converting relative movement between the reaction member and at least one respective energy capturing float to useful energy. The generator includes depth setting means such as adjustable mooring lines (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) securing the reaction member to the sea bed SB for setting the depth (D1) of the reaction member in the sea. Both the float and the reaction member possess a positive buoyancy, allowing suitable tension to be applied to the mooring lines. The improved tension brought about by the net positive buoyancy has the surprising effect of improved stability in energetic sea conditions.
