    • The invention includes a method and apparatus for improving a channel change response time. A method includes propagating a plurality of media streams toward at least one user terminal using a respective plurality of multicast groups and propagating a meta channel toward the at least one user terminal for conveying information adapted for use in selecting one of the media streams in a manner tending to improve the channel change response time. The media streams include an original media stream conveying media content and at least one auxiliary media stream, generated from the original media stream, where each of the at least one auxiliary media stream conveys the media content of the original media stream, where each of the at least one auxiliary media stream is offset in time with respect to the original media stream. The information conveyed by the meta channel is associated with the media streams. A user device may receive the meta channel information and select one of the media streams using the meta channel information in response to a channel change request from the user terminal, or a network device may select one of the media streams for a user terminal in response to a channel change request from the user terminal.

    • A Diameter bus between Diameter processing nodes of the same network element is disclosed herein. The Diameter bus includes a data structure that is used to transfer Diameter messages between the processing nodes. In doing so, the data structure avoids the overhead associated with SCTP, TCP, Ethernet, and/or IP encoding that is required by the Diameter base protocol. To ensure that the Diameter processing nodes operate as intended, the Diameter bus also includes a simplified Diameter transport structure such that Capabilities Exchange messaging between Diameter processing nodes is maintained as required by the Diameter base protocol. However, the simplified Diameter transport structure forgoes other functionality associated with the Diameter base protocol, such as the Device Watchdog messaging. By eliminating certain features of the Diameter base protocol as well as the SCTP/TCP/IP encoding and decoding associated with Diameter communications, processing performance of the network element can be substantially improved.

    • The present invention provides a method involving a femtocell in communication with an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. In one embodiment, the femtocell operates according to code division multiple access (CDMA) standards. The method includes receiving, from the femtocell and at a first secure entity in the IMS network, first authentication information generated by the mobile unit using a first random number broadcast by the femtocell in a global challenge. The method also includes receiving, from a second secure entity in the secure network, at least one security key formed based on the global challenge and second authentication information for uniquely challenging the mobile unit. In one embodiment, the second secure entity is a CDMA-based authentication server. The method further includes providing the security key(s) to the femtocell in response to authenticating the mobile unit based upon the second authentication information.

    • A method of transmission between network equipment and user equipment, a method of network equipment transmission, a method of user equipment reception, a network equipment, an user equipment and a telecommunications system are disclosed. Packets transmitted over a channel containing information elements are multiplexed in accordance with a predetermined format in which each information element has an identifier which identifies that information element within that packet. The method comprises the steps of: determining that a packet to be transmitted over the channel will not contain more than one information element; transmitting an indicator between the network equipment and the user equipment to indicate that the packet to be transmitted over the channel will be encoded with a revised format in which no identifiers are provided; transmitting a packet over the channel encoded with the revised format with any identifiers omitted; and decoding the packet received over the data channel in accordance with the revised format to extract the information element.
