    • According to the invention, an arrayed waveguide grating interconnects wavelength channels between an optical fiber trunk of wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM-PON) and multiple branch fibers of the WDM-PON, in a WDM-PON including a system for distributing an uplink signal, a downlink signal, and RF/video broadcast signals. The WDM-PON realizes a channel scheme containing a predetermined free spectrum width and at least three spectrum segments. Each segment has a width identical to the free spectrum width. The WDM-PON has an optical terminal which receives a wavelength division multiplexed uplink signal in a first segment from among the spectrum segments, and receives a wavelength division multiplexed downlink signal in a second segment from among the spectrum segments. The channel schemes are identical in both the first segment and the second segment. An RF/video transmitter generates an RF/video signal in a third segment from among the spectrum segments.

    • The present invention relates to a method for controlling a light source in a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON). In one exemplary embodiment, this method can be implemented with an apparatus for controlling a light source in the WDM-PON. The apparatus can comprise a digital signal processing device configured to output a pilot tone signal. Moreover, the apparatus can comprise an amplifier configured to modulate current and the pilot tone signal, for outputting an amplitude modulated signal. The apparatus can further comprise a capacitor configured to perform AC-coupling of the amplitude modulated signal with a bias current that is applied to the light source; and a monitoring photodiode configured to detect an output optical signal from the light source and then transmit the detected output optical signal to the digital signal processing device, for controlling the output optical signal of the light source.
