    • The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for coating a substrate by flame assisted chemical vapour deposition (FACVD). According to the method, the flame is deflected by a forced gas stream directed along the surface of the substrate to be coated. 10 According to the preferred embodiment, the forced gas stream is generated by the combination of an injected gas flow comprising at least air to one side of the flame and an extracted flow of at least combustion gases to the other side. Said forced gas stream is beneficial for the coating 15 quality. The invention is related to various embodiments of an apparatus capable of performing the method. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus comprises an elongate burner, provided on either side with means for injecting and extracting a gas flow, such as a blower tube for 20 supplying a gas flow through a slit, and an extraction conduit provided with diverging walls at the inlet. Both the injection and extractions means are preferably at least rotatable so as to adjust the injection and extraction angles.
