    • The invention relates to an Ambient illumination system (100), a display device (200), and a method of generating an illumination variation. The ambient illumination system generates the illumination variation using an ambilight signal (A, (A 1,1 ,...A 4,5 ), P, (P 1, 1 ,...P 4,5 )) derived from a video-image (I 1 , I 2 ), the ambient illumination system comprises an analyzer for deriving the ambilight signals from the video-image and comprises a controller (10) for driving the light source (L1, L2,..., L8) using the ambilight signal. The illumination variation is displayed by the controller while not displaying the video-image. The effect of the ambient illumination system according to the invention is that it enables to enhance the usability of the ambient illumination system by using the ambiance created by the ambient illumination system via, for example, a previously shown video-image, however, now at a time when the video-image is not shown on the display device which, for example, is located in the same room.

    • This invention relates to an ergonomic lighting system for a display device including an image display region. An image analyzer determines the color information of a video signal to be displayed in the image display region. Light emitting means is disposed such that it peripherally surrounds the image display region for emitting an ergonomic light towards a viewing region of the image display region. A control unit controls the light source by adapting, in response to the determined color information, the light emitted by the light emitting means to the determined color information. The controlling is performed in accordance to pre-defined selection rules linking the color information of the video signal to be displayed to the property of the emitted ergonomic light.

    • A system suitable for backlighting is provided. The system comprises a monitor unit configured to monitor an information signal, and to generate a first signal based at least partly on the information comprised in the information signal, a control unit configured to control properties of light radiation emitted from at least two illumination areas comprised in the system, based on the first signal and the position of each illumination area in the system, and the integration time of each illumination area depending on the position of each illumination area in the system. The system provides for a more peaceful backlighting effect while still being able to stress action happening on the main screen (e.g. motion). A method and computer-readable medium is also provided.
