    • A color image control system and method are provided for improving the image control of printing systems, including digital front-end processors, color printers and post-finishing system. This automatic image control system, including measurement and calibration, by registering the captured reproduced document with the extracted virtual device document and automatically locating a plurality of regions in which to measure captured color values, using colorimetric measurements of an aim reproduction of the document at these same region positions, and finally relating the captured color values, the colorimetric color values, and the virtual device color values to create the an accurate color mapping. One embodiment of this method combines a global regression polynomial with local mapping refinement.

    • Forming a multicolor image on a receiver member wherein a database of custom color profiles based on substrate physical properties and printing process characteristics is established. A set of universal color profiles is determined based on physical properties of substrates from clustered custom profiles. One universal color profile is assigned to a target substrate from the set of universal color profiles based on objective or subjective feedback. Thereafter, a multicolor toner image is formed on the receiver member with toners of at least three different colors of toner pigments which form various combinations of colors at different pixel locations on the receiver member to form the multicolor toner image thereon using the assigned one color profile. Based on objective or subjective feedback, the selected one universal color profile is modified, or a different universal color profile is selected.

    • Printers are provided having a print engine having a print head that forms lines of picture elements on a receiver based upon lines of pixel values and a controller that causes the print engine to print a first print having a plurality of different areas along a cross-track direction with target densities and that receives data from which measured densities for different ones of the plurality of different areas can be determined. The controller determines a line density adjustment function based upon a functional relationship between a cross-track position of different ones of the areas and a difference between the measured density and the target density at the different ones of the areas and subsequently prints a production print according to lines of pixel values for the production print modulated by the line density adjustment function.
