    • The present disclosure relates to brakes for material handling manipulators and envisages a claw type pneumatic brake (100). The envisaged claw type pneumatic brake (100) for clamping on an object. The claw type pneumatic brake (100) comprises a fixed jaw (110), a moving jaw (115), a pneumatic pressurizing mechanism and, characteristically, a fail-safe mechanism. The fail-safe mechanism gets deactivated in the presence of pressurized air in the pneumatic housing (120) and gets activated when the air pressure drops by a predetermined magnitude. The fail-safe mechanism comprises a spring housing (125), that has a secondary cavity (128) interfacing with the primary cavity (123) and, a compression spring (127) supported in the secondary cavity (128). The spring (127) is compressed into the secondary cavity (128) due to air pressure, and extends into the primary cavity (123) and pushes against the piston (122) to enable clamping due to drop in pressure. The contact between the compression spring (127) and the piston (122) defines activation of the fail-safe mechanism.
