摘要： Disclosed is a method of manufacturing an optical fiber perform using MCVD including dehydration and dechlorination, which executes the following process repeatedly with changing the composition of soot generation gas according to the refractive index profile, the process including the steps of: forming a soot layer having pores on an inner wall of a deposition tube at a temperature lower than the soot sintering temperature with putting soot generation gas and oxygen gas into the rotating deposition tube; removing hydroxyl groups with keeping the pores by putting dehydration gas into the deposition tube; removing chlorine impurities existing in the soot layer with keeping the pores by putting dehydration gas into the deposition tube; and sintering the soot layer by heating the deposition tube at a temperature over the soot sintering temperature.

摘要： Disclosed is a low-attenuation single-mode optical fiber having a photoconductive core and a clad, which shows very low OH concentration in MFD (Mode Field Diameter) region. The optical fiber includes a core positioned at its center for photoconduction, and a dehydrated clad and a base clad which are coated on the clad in order. The dehydrated clad has a substantially identical refractive index to the base clad. A refractive index of the core is greater than those of the dehydrated clad and the base clad. The dehydrated clad has a relatively lower OH concentration than the base clad. The region composed of the core and the dehydrated clad has an MFD region at which OH concentration is less than 0.8 ppb.

摘要： A method for fabricating an optical fiber preform and an optical fiber having few hydroxyl groups in a core layer using MCVD is disclosed. This method includes forming a clad layer on an inner wall of a substrate tube, and forming a core layer on the clad layer. The core layer forming process includes a soot deposition step for generating and depositing soot on the clad layer by heating the substrate tube with supplying soot-forming gas into the substrate tube in which the clad layer is already formed, a dehydration step for removing hydroxyl groups and moisture from the deposited soot and the substrate tube by supplying dehydration gas into the substrate tube, and a sintering step for sintering the soot by heating the substrate tube at a high temperature. During the dehydration step and/or the sintering step, an evaporated heavy water (D20) is supplied.

摘要： A method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform including a dehydration process by photochemical reaction is provided. The method performs forming a clad and a core according to a predetermined refractive index profile by repeated deposition and sintering of soot particles by means of oxidation of soot generation gas, and a dehydration step for removing moisture and hydroxyl groups from a soot deposition region by means of photochemical reaction is executed between the deposition and sintering. The dehydration step activates dehydration gas into ionic or atomic state by irradiating light, in a wavelength range capable of inducing activation of the dehydration gas, from light source to the dehydration gas including chlorine and supplied to the soot deposition region, and then adsorbs the activated dehydration gas onto surface of the soot in order to induce dehydration reaction with moisture or hydroxyl groups.

摘要： Disclosed are a method for dehydration used in the optical fiber preform manufacturing process, and method and apparatus for manufacturing an optical fiber using the dehydration method. In the dehydration method, when the dehydrating gas is supplied into a tube during the optical fiber preform manufacturing process, dehydration reaction gas included in the dehydration gas is activated using a light source which emits light having a predetermined frequency capable of activating the dehydration reaction gas included in the dehydrating gas into atoms or ions. Then, the method uses the activated dehydration reaction gas generated as a result of the above process to eliminate moisture or hydroxyl group causing optical losses during the optical fiber preform manufacturing process.
