摘要： In the SU/MU MIMO system, UEs transmit a signal, BSs carry out spatial search of the signals, BSs estimate Angle of Arrival (AoA) of received signals and form an array response matrix using the AoAs. The beamformer generates beams using two sets of coefficients. First set of coefficients are determined using the array response matrix to generate a first set of beams with predefined properties. In some embodiments, UEs transmit reference signals to the BS on each of the UE's antenna elements, BS forms a first set of beams and measures the channel impulse response matrix between the UE antenna elements and the BS's first set of beams, and computes a second set of BS transmit coefficients and a second set of UE receive coefficients using the channel impulse response matrix. BSs and UEs form beams in two stages using the first and second set of coefficients.

摘要： Reverse link data rate indications in wireless communication systems are defined with low identification overhead. Existence of a pilot signal is leveraged in order to reduce the overhead for identifying and selecting the reverse link data rate. At least two distinguishable pilot signals are defined, in which, based on the particular pilot signal present in the transmitted frame, at least one rate set from the multiple available rate sets can be determined. Reverse rate information in the transmitted frame is then used to identify which specific data rate within the determined rate set is used. Based on the identified data rate, the receiver may then decode the payload data in the transmitted frame.

The system includes: at least one gateway able to provide broadband connectivity, a set of ground terminals, and a set of high altitude platforms (HAPs), where at least one aerial platform is able to communicate with at least one gateway using radio frequencies, each HAP is able to communicate with ground terminals using radio frequencies, and each HAP is able to communicate with each other HAP using radio frequencies. Ways to handoff a ground terminal/gateway from one HAP beam to another HAP beam are described. Ways to handoff a ground terminal/gateway from one HAP to another HAP are described. Ways that keep the communications payload radios active when there is data traffic and put the radios in sleep mode otherwise, thereby adjusting the communications payload power consumption to the data traffic requirements as a function of time and coverage area, are described.
