摘要： A banknote acceptor 1 for authenticating a banknote 2, has a sensing station S with detector 18 that produces image signals corresponding to a face the banknote. A processor 24 pre-processes the image signals and compares them with stored reference data corresponding to an acceptable banknote from memory 25 to determining the authenticity of the banknote and its denomination. A display device 29 displays an image 31 corresponding to the banknote under test based on the image signals from the detector 18, to allow the user to perform a visual check that the banknote detected at the sensing station corresponds to the banknote under test presented by the user. Also, the detected denomination of the banknote is displayed on device 32. The user can accept or reject the banknote using buttons 33 and 34, and retrieve images of previously accepted banknotes with button 35.

摘要： A banknote acceptor 1 authenticates a banknote 2, and has a sensing station S with detector 18 that produces image signals corresponding to a face the banknote. A processor 24 pre-processes the image signals and compares them with stored reference data corresponding to an acceptable banknote from memory 25 to determining the authenticity of the banknote and its denomination. If the banknote is rejected, data corresponding to the image signals are stored in memory 25 and later are encrypted and transferred to a remote processing station 38, for analysis. Then, updated reference data is transferred from the processing station 38 to the memory 25 for use as updated, stored reference data for comparison with banknotes under test. A corresponding coin acceptor is also described.

The calibrating value of the sensor signals may be compared with ensemble data concerning corresponding calibration values derived from an ensemble of coin validators of the same design.

摘要： In coin discrimination apparatus, a coin under test rolls past first and second inductive sensors (C1, C2) which produce first and second coin signals (x1 x2) in dependence upon the coin under test. The coin signals are compared with data defining first and second stored windows (W1, W2) to determine acceptability of the coin. In accordance with the invention the data for the first and second windows (W1, W2) are stored respectively for providing both a first and a second window width ((W11, W12; W21, W22), wherein the first window width corresponds to the width of a distribution of coin signals associated with acceptable coins of a particular denomination, and the second window width corresponds to the width of said distribution but excludes therefrrom a range of values corresponding to fraudulent coins, and a coin under test is deemed to be acceptable upon the coin signals falling either within a first or a second acceptance condition wherein, for the first acceptance condition, the value of the first coin signal falls within the first window width of the first window (W11), and the value of the second coin signal falls within the second window width of the second window (W22), and for the second acceptance condition the value of the first coin signal falls within the second window width of the first window (W12), and the value of the second coin signal falls within the first window width of the second window (W21).
