    • A fluorescence emission imaging method and apparatus allows for high frame rate imaging in scattering medium as well as for fluorescence, phosphorescence, or luminescence lifetime imaging, time-resolved fluorescence, phosphorescence, or luminescence lifetime spectroscopy and imaging. A method involves providing an illumination beam, propagating the illumination beam to a light modulator array, modulating the illumination beam so as to generate an array of point sources, wherein each of the point sources is modulated at a frequency, imaging the modulated illumination beam on the object, and detecting a fluorescent, phosphorescent, or luminescent emission from the object. An optical imaging component in the form of a modulation mask has multiple bands. Each band has alternating transmissive and/or reflective and/or absorptive regions that are patterned such that light scanned over a band will be modulated at a band-related frequency.

    • A caster assembly (30) that can be used with furniture to support the furniture and to make the furniture mobile. The caster assembly has a housing (34) with a stem (32) that extends upwardly to be attached to the particular piece of furniture. Within the housing is a plurality of spherical rollers (36) that are supported within the housing so as to be rotatable about their center points (52) and therefore can rotate in any direction as the furniture is moved. In the preferred embodiment, there are three spherical rollers that are all equidistant from the center line or longitudinal axis of the stem so that the weight of the furniture that bears down upon the stem is supported equally by the spherical rollers contacting the floor. As a further feature, a glide cup (38) is provided that can be readily attached and detached from the bottom of the housing and, when attached, the glide cup covers the spherical rollers and presents a flat, planar surface that contacts the floor.

    • A laser system is proposed that is configured to provide a pseudo-CW signal at room temperature. The system utilizes an array of pulsed lasers that are controlled (in terms of turning "on" and "off") to provide, in combination, a quasi-CW output signal. The activation of each individual laser is controlled to turn "on" and "off" in a predefined sequence, where at least one laser is "on" at any given point in time. Thus, by combining the outputs from the plurality of pulsed lasers onto a single output signal path, the resultant output signal from the system will be a pseudo-CW signal (the amount of "ripple" present in the signal controlled by factors such as the number of individual lasers in the plurality of lasers, the duty cycle of each individual laser, etc.). The duty cycle of the individual lasers can be controlled to provide a high power output signal (higher duty cycle), or provide a high wall- plug efficiency of the system (lower duty cycle).
