    • A heat exchanger (4) is connected via an insulated flow pipe (26) to a pump (28) arranged in a borehole (32). The flow pipe (26) and the pump (28) are surrounded in the borehole (32) by a protective tube (34) open at the bottom adjacent to a return region (38) which extends radially outward to the wall of the borehole. The return region (38) communicates with the interior of the protective tube (34). A return line (42) from the energy exchanger (4) contains at least one return pipe (40) which extends approximately to the bottom (30) of the borehole (32) and is subdivided along its length by a plurality of transverse plugs (44). At the transverse plugs (44), the return water flows through passages (46) arranged on either side of the transverse plugs (44) and penetrates the porous filling (48) surrounding the return pipe (40). After the transverse plugs, the return water flows out of the porous filling (48) and back through the passages (46) into the return pipe (40). This results in reliable guiding of the return water and optimal heat uptake by the water from the return region and from the wall of the drilled hole.

    • A thermally insulating forward-flow pipe (27) is connected to a pump (28) mounted inside a borehole (32). The forward-flow pipe (27) and pump (28) are surrounded inside the borehole (32) by a shroud pipe (34, 34a) which is open at the bottom and outside and around which is a return-flow region (38) for return water. The return-flow region contains return-flow pipes (40) connected to an energy exchanger (4) and a porous filling (48). At the bottom (30) of the borehole (32), the return-flow region is connected via lateral inlet apertures (52) in the shroud pipe (34, 34a) to the inner space of the shroud pipe. To make the facility more efficient, the shroud pipe (34) below the pump (28) leads into a section (34a) with a reduced internal cross-section. (Fig. 1)

    • In a borehole (2), a pump (22) at the bottom end of a flow duct (20) is surrounded by a shroud pipe (18) which terminates at a distance (a) from the bottom (8) of the bore-hole (2). Extending radially around the outside of the shroud pipe is a return-flow region (16) for return water; appropriate return-flow pipes (30) are provided in the return-flow region and extend as far as the bottom (8) of the borehole. The return-flow pipes (30) are provided with outlet apertures (34), at least below the end (26) of the shroud pipe (18). The borehole (2) is packed with a porous filling (36) from the bottom as far at least as the level above the lateral apertures (28) of the shroud pipe (18). A barrier layer (38) is provided above the porous filling (36). The proposed arrangement has the advantage of preventing sedimenting material present in the borehole and higher-level ground water from getting into the return water circulating in the porous filling.
