摘要： A Method and apparatus for treating skin disorders includes a source of pulsed near black body electromagnetic energy and a means of delivering this energy to a treatment site. A means for cooling the treatment site is described. The number of pulses and intensity of the energy can be varied. Optical filters are ued to limit the spectrum of energy emitted and the filters are cooled to allow high-energy operation. The size of the treatment spot is controlled by a series of apertures.

A novel delivery system (20) for the YAG laser is disclosed which includes an elongated sapphire strand (24) which consists of a single crystal. The sapphire strand (24) has a diameter between 10 and 1000 microns so that it maintains its flexibility and the sapphire strand (24) is encased within a flexible protective coating (26). The sapphire strand (24) is also essentially devoid of water content.

The housing also includes an optical output port (18) and a dental optical delivery system (100) optically connected to the port. A first laser (14) is contained within a first laser cavity which, when activated, generates a first laser beam while, similarly, a second laser (16) is contained within a second laser cavity which, when activated, generates a second laser beam. Only one laser, however, is activated at a given time and the output beam from the activated laser is directed to the optical output port in the housing for use in dental applications. The first laser has optical qualities sufficient to perform a first set of dental procedures which the second laser has optical qualities sufficient to perform a second and different set of dental procedures.

The method comprises the use of infrared laser radiation in the region of 1.2 to 1.8 um in a manner from inside the vessel 200 or 202 such that the endothelial cells of the vessel wall 704 are damaged and collagen fibers in the vessel wall 704 are heated to the point where they permanently contract, the vessel 200 or 202 is occluded and ultimately resorbed . The device includes a laser 102 delivered via a fiber optic catheter 300 that may have frosted or diffusing fiber tips 308. A motorized pull back device 104 is used, and a thermal sensor 600 may be used to help control the power required to maintain the proper treatment temperature.

摘要： A dental laser assembly (10) is disclosed for use in eradicating carious lesions in teeth, the treatment of sensitive teeth, as well as the removal of soft tissue. The laser assembly (10) includes a housing (12) having a cavity (34) in which a pulsed laser (32) is contained. The laser (32) is excited so that the laser (32) emits a laser beam along a predetermined axis (46) that is in line with a fiber optic delivery system (22) and at a pulse rate of 1 to 10,000 pulses per second and an average power variable from 0 to 50 watts. A handpiece (30) is dimensioned to be inserted into a human mouth while an optical fiber (22) optically connects the laser output to the handpiece. The laser assembly (10) also includes a continuous output aiming laser (60) which, upon activation, provides a continous laser aiming beam coaxial to the treatment beam. Both beams are then introduced into a fiber optic delivery system.
