    • An interspinous process spacer and method of implanting same is provided for maintaining separation between adjacent spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae. The spacer has two lateral portions and a medial portion therebetween, the medial portion adapted to reside between the adjacent superior and inferior spinous processes in the deployed configuration to maintain separation therebetween. The lateral portions each comprise a superior lateral portion and an inferior lateral portion adapted to reside on the lateral side of the respective superior and inferior spinous process in the deployed configuration to maintain positioning of the interspinous process spacer between the two adjacent vertebrae. The lateral portions each comprise an expandable lateral member that is expandable from an insertion configuration to the deployed configuration, and at least one of the lateral portions includes within it a lateral support member configured to be deformable for the insertion configuration and expanded in the deployed configuration. The method includes introducing the spacer through a tubular delivery device to the region between the spinous processes and positioning therein, followed by retraction of the delivery device and expansion of the expandable lateral members and lateral support members.

    • The invention relates to a method for combined analogue and digital transmission of an analogue AC measuring signal (Sa) by means of an optical fibre, and to a device to carry out this method. According to the invention the analogue AC measuring signal (Sa) is both digitized and combined with a constant direct voltage signal (SR), the digitized AC measuring signal (Sd) and the analog summated signal (SRa) are combined to form a modulation signal and converted to an optical transmission signal (SL), the optical transmission signal is reconverted into a modulation signal in the receiver (6), where the signals (Sa, Sd,SR) are filtered out and the recovered AC measuring signal (Sa) is normalized by the filtered out direct voltage signal (SR). This enables a method for combined analog and digital transmission to be obtained, whereby ageing phenomena of the optical fibre system (2,4,6) can be compensated.

    • There are several ways of axially securing a throttle valve spindle: an additional spring exerts axial pressure on the throttle valve spindle or an additional recess is provided on the spindle with which a tongue secured to the housing engages. Both arrangements require additional components and, with the second one, the position of the throttle valve spindle is not fixed without clearance. In the proposed device, however, the throttle valve spindle (10) is axially actuated against a casing stop with the aid of a magnet (52). The magnet (52) is needed in any event to actuate a coupler. The position of the throttle valve spindle (10) is precisely defined without any clearance without the need for any separate components. The device is especially suitable for controlling the power of a four-stroke engine.
