    • Improved methods of superposing a film laminate (12) over a plastic substrate (14) and fused film-plastic parts (10) made thereby are disclosed. Improvement in traditional techniques is provided by preforming the film laminate (12) proportionately relative to the size and shape of the underlying plastic substrate (14) whereby improved gloss consistency of the fused film-plastic part (10) is observed. The film laminate (12) is preformed by shaping it over a pattern block (30) wherein the film laminate (12) is provided with an inner height (pfd) and inner face width (pfw). The inner height (pfd) of the film laminate (12) is less than the height of the plastic substrate (14) while the inner face width (pfw) of the film laminate (12) is greater than the face width of the plastic substrate (14). The film laminate (12) is next positioned in a mold cavity (42) wherein a molten resin is injected thereby forming the plastic substrate (14) and fusing the film laminate (12) thereover.

    • A clip with dual attachment flanges that is easily attachable, removable and re-attachable to and from a vehicle, such as an automobile, boat, snowmobile, or other similar structure. The clip comprises a base, whereby a male member projects perpendicularly from the base on one side of the base substantially from a leg member of the base, first and second legs project from a cross-member substantially in the same plane as the base, the first and second legs projecting from the cross-member on opposite ends of the cross-member, and attachment flanges at the outermost ends of each of the first and second legs. A corresponding clip housing attached to a trim part is provided with flange receipt channels that receive the flanges of the first and second legs to secure the trim part to the clip. The first and second legs of the clip are thus slid over portions of the clip housing to seat the flanges of the first and second legs in their respective flange receipt channels. Slide guide channels may be provided to help align the first and second legs of the clip for easier insertion or removal of the trim part from the clip.

    • An improved rocker panel on side sill construction includes a substantially planar horizontal top portion, a side portion with a substantially convex show surface and a substantially concave hidden surface opposite the show surface, and a clip house mounting structure disposed on the hidden surface. The improvement consists of joining the clip house to the rocker panel or side sill at the juncture formed between the top show surface and side show surface of the part. Preferably, this joint comprises at least one hollow channel surrounded by a reinforcing rib connecting to the hidden surface proximate the juncture of the top portion with the side portion and connecting the cliphouse mounting structure to this rib. The channel and reinforcing rib may run substantially longitudinally the length of the rocker panel. The channel and reinforcing rib inhibiting sagging in the top portion of the part between adjacent clip house mounting structures. The rocker panel or side sill may be made by gas-assisted injection molding wherein a mold including a mold cavity having the desired final shape, including one or more channel cavities, is provided. A predetermined amount of thermoplastic material is then injected into the mold cavity. Gas is injected into the one or more channel cavities at a predetermined pressure. The thermoplastic material is then allowed to set while the gas pressure is maintained.
