    • A transient voltage surge suppression device includes a varistor (134) assembly having a compact thickness, and thermal disconnect assembly (142) carrying a separable contact bridge movable along a linear axis to disconnect the varistor element from external circuitry. The invention discloses a transient voltage surge suppression device, which comprises a varistor element having opposed first and second sides. The varistor element is as usual operable in a high impedance mode and low impedance mode in response to an applied voltage. The first conductive terminal is provided on a first side of the varistor and the second conductive terminal is provided on the second side of the varistor element. Then a separable contact bridge which interconnects one of the first and second terminals of the varistor, and a thermal disconnect element, the separable contact bridge carried on and movable with the thermal disconnect element along a linear axis relative to the varistor element.
