    • A cube wire-grid polarizing beam splitter (10, 10b) includes a pair of prisms (18, 22) secured together to form a cube. An array (30) of parallel conductive wires (34) is disposed between the pair of prisms. A pair of continuous film layers (42) is disposed on one side of the wires between the wires and one of the pair of prisms with an intermediate film layer (46, 46b) adjacent the prism having a refractive index greater than both i) a refractive index of a rear film layer (50, 50b) adjacent the plate wire grid polarizer, and ii) a refractive index of an adjacent prism. A layer of ribs (62) is disposed on another side of the wires between the wires and another of the pair of prisms, the ribs being aligned with and supporting the array of parallel conductive wires. A display apparatus (100) includes a cube wire-grid polarizing beam splitter.

    • An image projection system (10) includes one or more wire grid polarizing beam sputters (14a-c, 28, 29) and one or more transmissive arrays (16a-c}. A polarized light beam from a light source (22) and pre-polarizer (26a-c) is directed towards the transmissive array which modulates the polarization of the polarized light beam by selectively altering the polarization of the polarized light beam to encode image information thereon and creating a modulated beam. The modulated beam is directed towards the wire grid polarizing beam sputter which acts as an analyzer to separate the modulated beam into reflected and transmitted beams. A screen (18) is disposed in one of the reflected or transmitted beams to display the encoded image information. The polarizing beam sputter is oriented at an angle with respect to the modulated beam such that the reflected beam is directed away from the transmissive array. A plurality of transmissive arrays can be used for different colors. One or more polarizing beam sputters (28, 29) can act as both analyzers and combiners.
