    • A process for producing ether compounds which comprises reacting an acetal compound represented by the general formula (I) (wherein R s and R may be the same or different and each represents alkyl or cycloalkyl and R s may be the same or different from repeating unit to repeating unit; and n is an integer of from 1 to 50); with hydrogen in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising (A) 10 to 70 % by weight, in terms of metallic nickel, of nickel and (B) at least one material selected from among oxides of silicon, aluminum, magnesium, titanium and zirconium and synthetic and natural inorganic oxides comprising at least one of the above oxides as the constituting unit to thereby give an ether compound represented by general formula (II) or (III), wherein R , R and n are each as defined above, thus efficiently producing a vinyl ether polymer or a terminal ether compound without causing any troubles such as the corrosion of reactors.
